Why Nepal is so vulnerable to quakes

The Magnitude 7.8 Nepal earthquake has occurred in what is one of the most seismically active regions in the world.


India is slamming into Asia. That causes a lot of tectonic energy to be released. When the plates move 2 inches a year, something has to happen.

A shallow, almost 8, earthquake is sure to be devastating. This could be the second largest earthquake recored in the region.

As if Everest was not dangerous enough.
