This is like a really bad episode of Battlestar Galactica – “The Gay Winter Olympics” episode

A relevant quote:

“Events in Russia are solely to do with domestic politics. In individual cases sportsmen have been affected. If a certain anti-Russian press feels called upon to deliver these domestic Russian matters on to the Olympic stage, then this is extraordinarily regrettable and shows their unfriendly attitude toward Russia in the worst possible light.” – Dr. Karl Ritter von Halt, the president of the Committee for the Organization of the 2013 Winter Games.

Except i substituted “Russia” for “Germany” and “2013” for “1936.”

This has all happened before. It will happen again. So say we all.

An American athlete, in Russia for the World Championships,  just dedicated a medal to his gay and lesbian friends. That might be the best approach, rather than a boycott.

    1. If you look carefully at what he said, he parsed his words very carefully. He was asked by a Russian reporter if he dedicated his win to his gay and lesbian friends. His reply:

As much as I can speak out about it, I believe that all humans deserve equality as however God made them,” he told R-Sport after running a 1:43.55 at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. “Whether you’re gay, straight, black, white, we all deserve the same rights. If there’s anything I can do to champion the cause and further it, I will, shy of getting arrested.”

He knows what he is doing He actually said nothing against Russian law and in fact, pretty much repeated just what the IOC and Russians have said. He never answered the question but replied in a way that shows his true feelings without saying anything different than the politicians. He has a future career there I think ;-)
