Why having ubiquitous video cameras and Youtube is a blessing and a curse

First Person video of Joplin MO tornado 5/22/11

It is intense but no one seems to have been hurt.

Having little video makes the sounds of the people even harder to deal with. It is the “I think we are going to do it”  just before the big winds hit that really got me. But they did the right thing and sought the best shelter they could. Apparently the refrigerator space they occupied was the only thing still standing.

The obvious concern of everyone for everyone else’s safety was so raw. People just seem to do that, all the time.

The Joplin tornado is now the deadliest one in US history.

    1. The tornado in 1953 killed 116 people. Joplin has killed at least 132. According to Jeff Master’s Wunderground blog, the Joplin tornado is the most costly tornado ever, although we won’t know until the final count from the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham tornado of April 27. In any case, the two most costly tornadoes ever have happened with 3 weeks of each other. And another 13 people died this week in tornados.
