Well, I guess we’re all done here then. “Conspiracy Theorist Convinces Neil Armstrong Moon Landing Was Faked”.
I’ll be closing down the Bad Astronomy site now and taking bids for the domain name. Let’s start at $25 billion, the estimated cost of the Apollo mission. That way I can start my …

Logic never works with deniers but you can tell when their arguments have lost their mainstream luster when satirists really begin to lay on the snark. Humor is really the only way to deal with people like this . Anger and logic do not work. Laughing at their idiocy seems best.
But then this may not work against creationists since their views are still way too mainstream. I would sure hate to be a rational human being in this school district in Missouri. You can see a picture of the T-shirt here. Obviously, lack of critical thinking is not only a problem if you are a parent. It is apparently a problem if you run the school district. A teacher said this:
“I was disappointed with the image on the shirt,” said Sherry Melby, a band parent who teaches in the district. “I don’t think evolution should be associated with our school.”
Getting mad at such stark ignorance from a supposedly educated adult serves no purpose. Some people will remain ignorant no matter what. They would deny the fire, even as it burnt down their house.
The sad thing is that this sort of publicity makes it much harder for any smart student from Missouri to leave the state for a college education. Most colleges would be leery of the education for a student from such a district , when it has such stellar examples in charge. If I was on an admissions committee and saw that a student from Sedalia had applied, I would want some really rock hard evidence that they had been given the background to think at a college level.
It sure seems like Sherry Melby is incapable of thinking at that level. It is because of people like this that I sometimes view Kornbluth’s ‘Marching Morons‘ as a recipe for salvation and not as satire. (You can read it here.)
What do we do when satire actually becomes the preferred choice?
