A behind-the-scenes profile of this week’s auction for a group of patents from Nortel revealed a “fast and furious” battle between technology giants Apple and Google.

What is fascinating here is the various alliances that formed. Intel was interested and chose Google to ally with. Apple had Microsoft, Sony, EMC, and a host of others.
Apple paid to have complete access to all the patents while the others appear to license parts.
It seems to all have been an anti-android approach. It will be interesting to see how these are used, especially since any anti-competitive aspects will open further Federal scrutiny.
