Apple’s share of the U.S. personal computer market grew more than 13% to reach a modern day high of 10.4% for the third quarter of 2010, leaving it just 17,000 units shy of becoming the nation’s third largest PC vendor. [Updated with IDC data]

Increasing marke share in this economy. And I wonder how skewed the profits are for Apple since most of its sales do not come from cheaper laptops. 10% of the market selling higher end machines indicates that its strategy of using the iPod/iPad/iPhone universe as an entry to Mac computers is successful.
