An eventful summer sea ice melt season has ended in the Arctic. Ice extent reached its low for the year, the third lowest in the satellite record, on 19 September.

And ice older than 2 years continued to disappear.

Sea Ice volume, which had reached its lowest point, has rebounded somewhat as we enter the freezing time but it is still lower than any other October.

This is really cool. The data from 150 years of hurricanes. Growing up along the Gulf Coast, I’d follow each storm track as the weather guy would announce it. Now I can just have fun and play.

For example, we were vacationing on Kauai on1992 when Iniki hit. It is spooky to watch its track take the 90 turn to the north and pass right over where we were. Look at the size of Iniki compared with Kauai.

My lifetime along the Gulf Coast sure came in handy that September.
