Wikis in education

Teaching with wikis: navigation, student notes, and integrating Google forms:
[Via Discovering Biology in a Digital World]

This quarter, I’m using a wiki with my bioinformatics class and posting sometimes about the things that I learn.

Two things I’ve been experimenting with are:
Setting up pages for individual students so they can take notes while they’re working.

Embedding a Google form into one of my wiki pages for student assessment.

Very smart idea to create wiki pages for the student’s to use for note-taking. One of the reasons that anyone who banishes laptops from a class or meeting is simply fighting against the current. Ii is almost impossible for me to take notes with a pen anymore. I use wiki pages all the time for notes and I would expect this to be a pretty expected item in any class.

Tricking Out Your iPhone for Biology:

Bio-related apps abound for the iPod touch and iPhone.

A couple of these are actually very fun to use. Maybe iPhones should be issued to all researchers.

Too addictive

Physics:

A physics game. Use the objects on the screen to get the solid green box inside the green box outline. Fun. Aggravating, but fun. If I gave you this link duriug the week, you’d never get any work done. Think “paper plane.”

Well, I just wasted an hour.
