Election Maps
Check out the site for a lot of different election maps from 2004 and 2008.

In these maps, the votes for the Democratic or Republican Presidential candidate from 2008 (left) or 2004 (right) is shown. Red is the GOP. Blue is the Democratic Party. Shades of purple are used to represent percentages in between. Each county is colored.
But the map of the US has been distorted to illustrate population size. Each county is scaled to the population found in its borders. This gives a direct view of the popular vote that is not possible when the normal map is used. It does show that even a 6% point difference is not easily seen in the overall country.
It is interesting that there are great gobs of blue separated by thin lines of red. wonder if that means anything?
The pictures look nice but it wold probably be more informative to scale the counties by actual votes cast in a county, rather than total population.
